Error 8045: SKU is a variation parent in one marketplace and a variation child in another
Amazon detected that the same SKU is configured as a variation parent in one marketplace and a variation child in another. A SKU has to be consistently a parent or a child across every marketplace it appears in — mixing those roles confuses Amazon's catalog structure and triggers this error.
Why it happens
- The SKU's variation role differs across the marketplaces where it exists. For example, it sits under a parent SKU in Amazon US but is itself a parent in Amazon UK.
How to fix it
- Decide what role the SKU should have — parent or child — and apply it consistently across every marketplace.
- If you intended it to be a child: reassign it under the correct parent on the marketplace where it's currently a parent, then re-upload.
- If you intended it to be a parent: remove it from the variation family on the marketplace where it's a child, then re-upload.
