How to Create A Category Template

How to Create A Category Template

Enhance operational efficiency, improve product management, and ensure consistency in product categorization across platforms with Category Templates.
  1. On the Dashboard, you will find the “Create Template” button in the right-hand corner.
  2. Upon clicking the button, you will be taken to another page to create a template.
  3. On the page, give your category template a unique name. Make sure the name is easy to identify and within the 80-character limit.

It is advisable to use the same name of the template as that of the TikTok category that you will link this template with. It will help you better understand the template without any scope of confusion.

  1. Next, Assign Products to this Template. Here, you will have to choose between Manual Product Selection and Rule-Based Product Selection.

1. For Manual Product Selection:

  1. Click on Add Products.
  2. In the pop-up that opens, select all the products you wish to add and click Done.

2. For Rule-Based Product Selection:

  1. Create Rule Groups to map Shopify products to TikTok Shop products selling under this category. The variables for condition include Title, SKU, Product ID, Product Type, Tags, Collection Title, and Brand.

  2. Product Must Match: The rule specifies whether all selected conditions must be met or any one of them.

You can assign products to the template based on the following conditions:
Select “Any Condition” to fetch the product(s) fulfilling any of the conditions created.
Select “All Condition” to fetch the product(s) fulfilling all the conditions created.
Click on “Add More” to add multiple conditions in the Rule Group.
Click on “Run Query” to fetch the number of the product(s) based on the Rule Group(s) created.

You can also click on Override Existing Products. This means that if you have assigned a product to this Category and it happens to be included in another category as well. The app will override the previous category and place the products in this new category.
  1. Now select the most relevant TikTok Shop selling category to list your Shopify products.

Some categories may be restricted or are invitation-only for the seller’s TikTok Shop. To sell in these categories, you need to apply and get the selling approval from TikTok Shop. You can apply for the category permission here.
  1. Based on the selected category, you should add Shipping Details, mandated by TikTok Shop for listing products online. This is required as part of TikTok’s Listing Optimization guidelines to ensure the correct calculation of shipping costs for the customers. This includes adding accurate Package Length, Width, Height, and Weight.

Product Compliance

  1. Next, you will have to add product compliance details for your products/categories.

For EU Sellers (Except UK):

As mandated by the EU, you are required to provide all the details to make your order eligible for sale in the EU.

For US & UK Sellers:

The fields included in the Product compliance section are dependent. This means your selection of answers will open consecutive fields to help you add more details about your products.

  1. Next, you must map Shopify attributes with TikTok Shop attributes. Or select recommended values for TikTok Shop attributes from the list provided.

TikTok Shop platforms require relevant, detailed information about the products you are selling, known as Product Attributes. This information gives customers a better understanding of the products they are about to purchase, thereby increasing your sales without room for miscommunication or misunderstanding. Add Required Product Attributes and Optional Product Attributes for better results.
  1. Add a fallback value in the custom fields under Required Product Attributes to capture the product details you need. This helps ensure the values are mapped correctly to the relevant TikTok Shop attributes for accurate listings and compliance.

  1. Under Optional Product Attributes, you can now add and map products with Non-T1 brands.

Non-T1 Brand

You can now select pre-approved Non-T1 brands while processing their products on TikTok Shop. These brands do not require additional authorization, making the product listing process smoother and more efficient.
This feature allows you to easily assign your products to Non-T1 brands without undergoing additional brand approval steps. This simplifies the listing process and ensures compliance with TikTok Shop’s brand policies.
  1. Create custom brands under Optional Product Attributes so you can accurately represent your products when predefined brand options don’t fit your catalog.

  1. For some categories, you might be asked to add a size chart for more detailed information for the customers

Custom Pricing Rule

  1. Set custom pricing for the category template. You can set a Fixed or Percentage pricing rule, and the products will be uploaded to TikTok Shop with the updated price rule.

  1. Save the settings to create your Category Template successfully.
You can view or edit the settings from the Category Template section. On the Category Template page, click on the Edit Default Template tab.
Upon clicking it, you will be redirected to the Template page, which includes all the sections above. Follow the same steps to make any changes to the template.

Once a seller has assigned their Shopify products to the required TikTok Shop selling categories using the Category Template, they can proceed to upload their Shopify products to TikTok Shop from the Products section.
