Managing Image Policy

Managing Image Policy

An Image Policy defines how your product images are selected and uploaded from your Magento store to TikTok Shop. This ensures that the right images appear on your listings and remain consistent across product variations.
Follow the steps below to create a new Image Policy.

Step 1: Go to TikTok Policies

  1. Navigate to TikTok Marketplace → TikTok Policies
  2. Click the Add Policy button
  3. Select Image Policy from the dropdown
You will now be redirected to the New Image Policy configuration screen.

Step 2: Enter the Policy Title

In the Title field:
  1. Enter a clear and descriptive name for your policy.
  2. This title is used internally only to identify the policy.

Step 3: Configure Image Settings

This section controls which images are sent to TikTok.

Main Image:

Select the Magento attribute that contains your primary product image. Available options include:
  1. Base (recommended)
  2. Listing Hover Image
  3. Small
  4. Swatch
  5. Thumbnail
Best Practice: Use Base Image, as this typically contains the highest-resolution product image.

Default Image:

This image is used when:
  1. A product does not have a valid main image
  2. An image is missing or broken
You can:
  1. Click Upload to upload a new image from your system
  2. Click Select from Gallery to use an existing Magento image
File Rules:
  1. Maximum size: 2 MB
  2. Supported formats: JPG, PNG
This default image will be merged with gallery images during product upload.

  1. Select how many additional gallery images should be sent to TikTok.
  2. This setting controls the maximum number of images uploaded for each product.

Use Parent Images in Variation:

This toggle controls how images are handled for configurable products (variants).
  1. Yes: If a variant has no images, it will inherit images from the parent product
  2. No: Variants must have their own images

Recommended: Enable Yes to prevent missing images on variants.

Step 4: Save the Image Policy

  1. Click the Save button (top-right corner)
  2. The system will validate your inputs
  3. Once saved successfully:
    1. The policy status becomes VALID
    2. It becomes available for products in the Listing Templates

Step 5: Assign the Image Policy

After saving:
  1. Go to TikTok Marketplace → Listing Templates
  2. Open or create a template
  3. Assign your newly created Image Policy
  4. Save the template
The assigned image rules will now apply to all products using that template.
