In some EU countries—especially Germany—a Pfand is a refundable deposit added to specific products, mainly beverage containers such as:

1. Plastic bottles
   
2. Glass bottles
   
3. Cans

When buyers purchase these items, they pay an additional Pfand deposit. They can get this amount refunded later by returning the empty container to an authorized return point (e.g., supermarket return stations).

This system helps promote recycling and responsible waste management.

Packaging Type  

1. Single-use
2. Multi-use 
   

1. Whether the product falls under Germany’s deposit-return system
2. The correct Pfand amount that the seller must charge
3. Compliance with German recycling regulations 
   

When Are These Fields Required?  

1. TikTok Shop will introduce Pfand Fee and Packaging Type attributes for selected product categories in the EU region.
2. These fields are mandatory only for Germany at launch.
3. Other EU countries may adopt this requirement later.
   

For Shopify/BigCommerce/WooCommerce/Etsy Sellers: 

Create or Edit a Category Template 

1. Click Create Category Template.
2. Select the TikTok Product Category relevant to your item.
3. Add all the required details. Refer here: Shopify | WooCommerce | BigCommerce | Etsy
   

1. Click Edit on the template you want to modify. 
   

Step 1: Locate Pfand & Packaging Type Fields  

1. Scroll to the Required Attributes section. 
   

These fields might be under Optional Attributes for some categories. Make sure to check and map both the attributes section. 

1. Look for the attributes: 
   

1. Pfand Fee
   

2. Packaging Type 
   

These fields appear only for categories where TikTok Shop requires them. 

Step 2: Map the Pfand Fee   

1. Click the Pfand field.
2. Enter or map the appropriate deposit value depending on your product’s packaging.  
   

1. Plastic bottle (single-use) → €0.25
2. Glass reusable bottle → €0.08 to €0.15 (depending on reuse program)  
   

When you use custom pricing rules in a category template, those rules also apply to Pfand fees. So if your pricing rule adds a fixed €10 increase, the Pfand fee will automatically increase by the same €10.

Step 3: Select the Packaging Type   

1. Single-Use Plastic Bottle
2. Multi-Use Glass Bottle
3. Aluminium Can
4. Reusable Container 
   

Step 4: Save the Template   

1. After mapping both fields, click Save Template.
2. The settings will now apply to all products assigned to this category template.  
   

What Happens After You Save?   

Once Pfand & Packaging Type fields are mapped: 

1. Products syncing to TikTok Shop for Germany will include these required fields.
2. You will avoid TikTok Shop listing errors like: 
   

1. Missing Pfand Fee
   

2. Packaging Type not provided
   

3. Compliance attributes incomplete 
   

3. Your listings will remain compliant with evolving EU & German packaging regulations.
