What is CPF Number?

A CPF number is an 11-digit number that identifies Brazilian citizens and resident aliens who pay taxes in Brazil.

CPF stands for Cadastro de Pessoas Físicas, which is Portuguese for ""Natural Persons Register

How it's used:
The CPF number is used for tax purposes. It can also be used as an ID card number.

How it's generated:
The Brazilian Federal Revenue generates the CPF number. The last two digits are check digits, calculated using an arithmetic operation on the first nine digits.

When it was introduced:
The CPF number was introduced on November 29, 1965.

How to apply for a CPF ID card:
Applicants can choose between a plastic ID-1 card or a paper-based card. Applicants who choose the plastic card must sign a declaration."
